LG Electronics is exporting large-scale CDMA equipment to Romania.
LGE signed an agreement with RomTelecom, the leading telecommunications service provider of Romania, to supply CDMA WLL system. The agreement was signed in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, between Vice President Chang-hyong Kang of LGE and Mr. Kargados of RomTelecom in the presence of Popsescu, President of Upper House of Romanian Parliament and other high government officials of Romania’s telecom sector. With the agreement, LGE will supply its own WLL system (STAREX-WLL) to the Alba region located northwest of Bucharest.
The contract, to be delivered as an Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), is valued at US$13 million. It is a turnkey contract where LGE will not only supply CDMA WLL system and devices, but also offer support installations and training for operating personnel.
The WLL export follows on the supply of large capacity digital switch to the state of Prahova in 1994 (US$ 50 million) when LGE first participated in the telecom modernization efforts of the country and the supply of CDMA WLL to the state of Buzau in 1998 (US$ 83 million). This means that LGE will be delivering in total US$83 million worth of telecommunications equipment to Romania alone.
LGE will be exporting both its own equipment and engineering technology where the optimal wireless subscriber network is delivered via Tel-AIR, software developed by LGE’s own technology to design a wireless network. This means that LGE’s ability to deliver total solution from leading-edge technology, telecom hardware to network design has earned recognition.
The CDMA WLL export by LGE after its successful advance into the Buzau region in Romania is all the more meaningful for expanding CDMA base in the European telecom market where GSM is the mainstream. LGE also plans to increase supply of CDMA mobile system for cdma2000 1x service.
